Dear God,
Please let dog heaven be a place
where pure puppy spirit fills old dogs with glee and energy
and strength for old bones and muscles to run and leap,
and blaze trails through forests and up streams,
****
****
and dance once again. Please, God, let dog heaven be a place where old dogs can dance.
Please let dog heaven be a place
where furry paws and wet noses
and curious eyes
have places to explore,
~~ where there are plenty of daily chores ~~
bird feeders to fill, guests to greet, critters to monitor, socks to hide, tissues to eat, snow to shovel
****
****
****
~~ and bottomless piles of balls to retrieve ~~
****
****
~~ and please let dog heaven be a place
where there is lumberjacking. Yes, please let there be lumberjacking.
****
****
****
****
****
****
Please let dog heaven be a place where angels kiss soft brown snouts,
and rub velvet ears,
and scratch full bellies as furry heads slowly drift to peaceful sleep on comfy beds.
****
Dear God, please let dog heaven be a place
where seasons change from crisp snowy days with snow deep enough for tunnels of fun,
to brilliant fall days where sun shines on sleek coats,
and pink springtime blossoms cushion shady rest spots.
God, there must be water. Water, ocean, lake, river, any water.
****
****
****
Please let dog heaven be a place
with water for splashing and swimming and slobbering and shaking.
****
****
****
No water is too cold. Or deep, or wild or wide. Or muddy.
****
****
****
****
And most of all God,
please let dog heaven be a place
where the pack stays strong and true, bound together forever with memories, loyalty, and love.
****
****
****
Dear God,
please,
please let dog heaven be a place.

Linda, your tribute is so touching, even as it brings tears to my eyes. I’m so sorry for your loss and will be thinking about you. xxoo
This brings tears to my eyes as constantly worry about my black lab that has a very grey muzzle, stiff joints and lumps and bumps all over.
Hugs to your family on the loss of your dear beloved family member
Oh Linda, I am sitting here with tears running down my face–What a beautiful tribute to your beloved pup, I am so sorry for your loss, and hope that you will keep looking at these wonderful photos and think of sweet memories, as your heart tries to mend-
Dear Linda: I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved companion. Your prayer is so beautiful! What an emotional year this has been for you! My thoughts are with you and your family.
Linda, I am so sorry for this loss. xxoo
Linda, I’m teary eyed reading your prayer. I believe with all my heart that doggy heaven is filled with all those things and more…that Nellie has the biggest stick, balls galore, and beautiful water. Thinking of you. ♥
I just saw this tribute today. It has touched me deeply. What an absolutely wonderful tribute. Our black lab “Jim” passed Oct. 2, 2015, he was 15 years old. We miss him greatly. Thank you.
Linda, I’m reading some of your old posts and ran across this tribute. This was such a precious way to remember your beloved Nellie. Time has passed but I know you still miss her. Your photos are wonderful. You could write a book.
