Swans and Fondue

Swans have long been a symbol of
fidelity and love everlasting.

Seems like this winter is also everlasting.  So I sent Mr. Fun outside to dig out our mailbox… (I’m expecting some LOVE letters 🙂)

I set the table in the dining room.

But the icy view was setting the wrong mood

… so I moved everything to the little table
in the cozy study, next to the crackling fire.

It’s a tiny table, just like one I had in my first apartment, where Mr. Fun and I spent many hours talking and planning and laughing.

Very cozy.
Just enough room for two.

The pink table cover is a silk and wool shawl Mr. Fun found for me in Ireland.
My favorite color!
I also LOVE hearts.

On our first date we went to a Celtics game.
I didn’t know if I was going to a hockey game or a basketball game, but I knew I wanted to go! 🙂

On our next date, Mr. Fun took me to
the Durgin-Park Raw Bar
for a draft and oysters on the half shell.
Alcohol and a known aphrodisiac!!!
Naughty Mr. Fun!!
I wonder what was on his mind?

A year and a half later we were married.
That was 30 years ago.

For every two anniversaries I’ve had one birthday.
hehehe

Isn’t chocolate also an aphrodisiac?

Let’s make dessert!

Kiwis, orange slices
strawberries, cake,

and
chocolate fondue!

Happy Valentine’s Day
to you and your fun one.
XOXOXO

Please join me for these
excellent parties!

  1. Beautiful and lovely romantic dinner for two after 30 years. Loved it all, but I especially love the candlesticks — they are exquisite. Also I admire your heart silverware and the intricate napkin ring holder…and the swans. I can’t believe how much snow you have! I DO hope you get lots of love letters coming since you have your mailbox shoveled out.

  2. What a lovely post! It will be 25 yrs soon for my “babe” and me! It’s so nice to see that there is still romance after 30 years.
I can’t pick out anything I like the most about your post – I love it all!!!!

  3. Your romantic fondue for two is just lovely, Linda. I love the little swans and the fire flickering in the background. I’ll think of this table next time I walk by Durgin Park or the Garden! Happy C2C Colors of Love!

  6. Forty-two years ago when Sweet Mister and. I were first married and in our tiny apartment, fondue parties were the big new trendy hit. Oh, did we make fondue. I still have all the different kinds of pots, the plates, and the forks. Your little fondue pot made me smile. I still have a fondue cookbook. Your tablescape is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your lovely design and for stopping by my post. Cherry Kay

I’m still giggling over alcohol & aphrodisiac date 🙂

  12. Pink is my favorite color too, and I think your table is just plain lovely. You made it even better by pulling it in front of the cozy fire.

I laughed at not knowing whether the Celtics were hockey or basketball.

    Which one is it?
    Just kidding.

A truly delightful post all the way around.

  13. Oh, my dear Linda, you make me laugh. You have such a flair with your words! AND, your table is just gorgeous with the pink cloth. T he crystal candlesticks are beyond lovely, and the list of beauties goes on forever. Mr. Fun (love the name you have given to him )…..must be special. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both.

  14. The dining room table was lovely, but then when I saw the romantic setting by the fire I knew you made a great choice. What fun to share such a beautiful setting with your sweetheart of over 30 years.
Have to say, I fondly remember the “fondue parties” of the 70s. Does that age us? 😉

  30. Happy Pink Saturday Sweetie…
Love is in the air. I can see it in these photos. Such a gorgeous share. I love the table set for two by the fire. SO ROMANTIC.

Have a beautiful Valentine’s Day. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

  31. How exquisitely and lovingly arranged for the one you love!! Just beautiful, and so welcoming and warm—we are having a little family celebration Monday evening, and I was thinking brownies, but the fondue sounds great fun, especially with a three-year-old to participate.

And we DO have those four-times-too-big marshmallows I’ve been wondering what to do with. Won’t that make an enticing mess?

    Happy Pink Saturday!!

  32. I like your cozy table for two by the fireplace, Linda. This has definitely been a winter for the bad weather record books, but your fireplace makes a frozen day look romantic. I also love a chocolate fondue dessert!
