Traveling Totes: Miss Posie Shops at Terrain and Juliska

TT March

You’ve probably heard that when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping, and since it has been very tough to set a pretty table on my deck, or under my pink tree, or down on the lower deck,

TT March

I decided to brave my driveway (it’s somewhere under that snow) and take my MacKenzie-Childs Traveling Tote, Miss Posie, shopping.

TT March

I’m a big fan of supporting my local merchants, and when the Juliska flagship store and Anthropologie’s home and garden store Terrain are local, it is very easy!  And people come from all over the country to shop at another local spot, United House Wrecking.

COME ALONG WITH ME FOR SOME SHOPPING FUN!

United House Wrecking in Stamford, CT, was established in the 1950s when houses along the CT shoreline were being demolished so I-95 could continue its march up the east coast.  Don’t be fooled by the name!  It is filled with some things you didn’t know you needed and others that would be the perfect finishing touch, and still others that will just provide entertainment while shopping on a cold, snowy day.  (can you find Pinocchio?)

And I Spy, with my little eye, a Traveling Tote, a Tortoise, and a thistle.

TT March

*

I don’t know where this chariot came from, but I don’t have a horse so it won’t work for me.

TT March

*

These horses won’t work on the chariot, but I LOVE riding carousels!  Do you?  How about this for your backyard or family room?

TT March

*

If four horses are more than you need, you could choose this wonderful old mechanical pony.

TT March

*

Someone please save this beauty.  He is hand carved, but I don’t know his heritage.  I must go back.

TT March

*

If I can’t have him I would really love (and could actually use) this wrought iron bench.  It had a matching chair and the details were amazing.  But Mr. Fun was with me and he just shook his head at the $1000 tag for the two items.  I thought it was actually a good deal, but he was not impressed.

I really want this!!!  Look at that Lab pointing ~~ Nellie used to do that and I know she didn’t have the slightest clue in her little brain as to what she was doing!

I need to take you shopping here again because I could fill up several posts with photos of interesting and unique items.

But I promised you Juliska, so let’s go.

TT March

*

I’m sure that many of you will be surprised to find that the Juliska Flagship Store is nestled into an area of Stamford, CT among a few antique shops and construction yards!  But it is easy to get to right off of I-95, so if you want to visit just drop me a line and I’ll be there in a flash!  The day I visited was the kind of day you sprint from car to building and hope you won’t get frostbite during the dash, but I forced myself to stop and take this photo as proof of our adventure.  What we do for blogging!  Luckily, once inside all troubles are forgotten.

You can find any Juliska products here in one place, displayed beautifully.

Here is Country Estate in blue, but it comes in several other colors too.

TT March

*

I need one of these egg plates, and maybe a muffin baker and casserole dish too.

TT March

*

I know my cakes would be better if I mixed the batter in this bowl.

TT March

*

This actually scared me a bit: (!!??!!)

TT March

*

But all was forgiven when I turned around and saw some of my favorites.

(A set of these heart shaped appetizer plates came home with me.) 🙂

TT March

*

Firenze comes in several colors, including this gold which here is displayed with the popular

Berry and Thread.

TT March

*

Take your pick from the display shelves and try your own combination!

TT March

*

This floral pattern, Field of Flowers, was especially attractive on the bitterly cold day.  Notice the gold accents on the flatware?  This is a new look.  I wonder if it will last?  What do you think?

TT March

*

Did you know that Juliska started out in 2001 producing hand-blown glass items?  They are still creating beautiful glass pieces, including these gorgeous hanging lamps. My iPhone photo does not capture their beauty.  You must see them!

TT March

*

Visit their website, HERE, or come up and we can hit their outlet store.  Prices were about half retail, and quality ranged from cracked and chipped to tiny imperfections in the glaze.

TT March

*

Juliska has a sweet little cafe where we could have lunch, but I’ll take you there another day.  Today we are heading to Anthropologie’s Terrain.  Prepare to drool over both the food and the goods!

Shall we lunch first?

Do you see something to tempt you?  I chose the seasonal quiche which changes every day.  This one was kale and goat cheese!  The crust was flaky and buttery and the quiche was perfectly set!  Delicious!!!

Now that we have had a little nourishment, let’s shop.  Recently all sorts of lovely items filled the shelves.

TT March

*

They have been replaced now with gardening and Easter supplies and I’m sure there is something you will love.

I like this bench too, but it is only for indoor or sheltered use.

TT March

*

Mushrooms are everywhere this Spring, both for display …

TT March

… or for growing!

TT March

*

Perhaps you prefer growing tomatoes?

TT March

*

Or unusual flowers?

TT March

*

I know you need this birdhouse!

TT March

*

I’m not too sure about this.  It looks like it would be quite painful to use.

TT March

*

We all need a bowl of bunnies.

TT March

*
These plastic bunnies come in milk chocolate, white chocolate, or dark chocolate.  All making me crave chocolate!

TT March

*

But my favorite thing today is this Købenler pot!! I’m definitely going back for it!

Did you find anything you “need” today?

TT March

*

I don’t want to give the impression that Miss Posie is just a pretty face!  Her brain needs exercise too, so she took me to the local library for a class on coding!!  My 15″ MacBook Pro fits perfectly inside, with plenty of room for other necessities!

TT March

This was the first time I was not disappointed in a local computer or photography class.  We actually learned something, and while I will not be designing websites in the near future, I was able to come home and adjust the code to increase the size of the font on my blog title!!

Oh, one more thing I can’t get out of my head … this little goodie from Terrain.  It would be perfect in one of my guest rooms and I know you would love seeing your pretty face in it when you come to visit for our next shopping trip.  Shhh…don’t tell you know who!

  1. Oh gosh, Linda, you could lose me in ANY of the places you took Miss Posie! I love those quirky stores like United House Wrecking and hey, that chariot would go great with the chartreuse trim on the MC bags! A Juliska outlet – what I wouldn’t give to get in one of those, being the dishaholic that I am (loved that display of tipped flour but that dead animal would’ve freaked me out!). And Terrain…I have friend who just moved to Holtsville NJ and every time he posts photos there I am so jelly. Your places traveled certainly were a good way to beat the winter doldrums! Thanks for letting me tag along. I invite all your readers to come see our giveaway at my blog and look forward to meeting some new folks. 🙂 Happy March!

  2. I am so envious that you have Juliska, Terrain and that wonderful salvage store so close by! I could do some serious damage in those places! I love that you can “tote” your computer in Miss Posie, that gives me a serious excuse to invest in a McK-Chds tote! What a fun way to spend a snowy day- Happy March, spring is coming!

  3. Well Linda, you can probably hear me sighing from Alabama to CT! If it weren’t such a lonnnng drive I would give you a call and we’d meet at Juliska and go from there. I’m sure I would overfill my SUV with all the amazing products in these shops. Juliska, Terran and UHW are shops I’ve Googled for location, I’m still sighing. I think you have your eye on so many pretties and I love how you filled Miss Posie with heart shaped plates. Now I see why you you tackled that snow covered drive, inspired by dishes! I’m right there with you, Miss Courtney and I would be out the door in a flash too. Don’t wait to long on the mirror, I’m sure your guest room needs it :).
Wow, amazing post, loved every photo, the carousels, I could probably find a place on the veranda. I will stroll back through again and sigh some more………
Have a great day. I’ve never seen snow like that……..

  4. Linda, like Emily, you probably head a big sigh coming from TX too. You have just taken me along to some of my favorite shops. Granted, I’ve never actually shopped their CT stores, but you have me dreaming of a road trip. I know Juliska is having their sale this weekend. I’ve been in touch with one of the employees. I’d love a set of the Winter Frolic party plates and to take advantage of the great prices, but not so sure over the phone is a wise shopping if items are seconds. 😉
UHW looks so interesting! Yes, please take us along with more photos on your next shopping excursion.
Terran too! Some of those chocolate bunnies already live here. So cute for Easter, and safe from my sweet tooth! I’m crushing over that mirror. I would love one for our home. I’m off to see if they offer it online. ‘-)
Thanks for braving the harsh winter to share the fun adventures you took with Miss Posie.

  5. Linda, how I would to leave my house in the morning and meet you and check out Terrain! Of course a stop at Juliska would be wonderful also but I’m trying to cut back on buying dishes. Tee hee

We sure have some very lucky totes that have become handy traveling partners.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventures and please go buy that beautiful mirror.

  6. Oh, I enjoyed browsing with Miss Posie on a winter day. Difficult to pick a favorite, but I do have an opinion on the stainless and gold-tone flatware. I think it will be around for awhile. It goes with everything, and I, also, have been seeing it around. Lunch at the Terrain sounds wonderful. Thanks for bringing us along.

  7. Oh Linda…I want to shop with you but first I need to increase my credit card limit and I’d need to rent a U-Haul! I don’t know if I would do more damage at Juliska, Terrain or United House Wrecking. I’m always fascinated by architectural salvage and treasures with a piece of history. I adore the bench with a nod to sweet Nellie… *sniff*. Gorgeous eye candy, I could live at Terrain and would consider returning to my retail days just to play with all those goodies. Thanks for risking frostbite to take me along. ♥

  8. Great post!! I have never heard of Terrain, but I can tell by your pics that I would love it. And the other stores look intriguing and I think I could spend hours there! Your photos of snow were so pretty – I hope it is all behind us!! I love how we have all connected thru a “tote”!! See you in June!

  9. I certainly enjoyed my shopping trip with you and Miss Posie, Linda. All the shops and the food were wonderful to visit. You have such a cute, creative writing style that is such fun to read, which is such a talent. Wish I could come visit you and go to all those fun shops. You don’t even have to hang that cute mirror for me in the guest room!
