Patriotic Tabletops

I’m always excited when I find a good new gift shop, but when I stepped into the shop at the Folk Art Museum in Williamsburg, I was delighted!

There were reproductions of museum pieces
like this creamware

and these adorable tea scoops

but there were also new pieces made by modern day folk artists!
There were many beautiful painted pieces in clay and tin.

One of these roosters is roosting in Connecticut now.

I thought this rooster weathervane would be perfect on my den coffee table, and I still do, but when I found out I could take another vacation for the price, I decided to leave it there.  šŸ™

Could someone go back and pick it up for me?

These baskets were made from rugs and were gorgeous!

The redware was breathtaking.
I do not collect this pottery, but I’m sure I have never seen pieces this beautiful.

I do collect blue and white, however, so of course I was drawn to this display.

I was trying to be good and just collect with my eyes and my camera, but I couldn’t help taking one piece around the store for a little walk,
just because.
I do that often to see if I still want something or if the charm will wear off!
But I couldn’t put it down.
And when I found out it was one of a kind, no more to be found elsewhere if I was still thinking about it tomorrow, I whipped out the plastic, signed on the dotted line, and took it home!

Did I mention that I have a collection of swans?
After the red, white and blue holidays I will hang it in the kitchen.  For now it sits on the den table next to a PB lantern filled with glass beads.

Across the room on the table where the large weathervane rooster should be, my hydrangeas fill red pots, and my 97 cent PB crow stands nearby.

Now don’t be looking at those dried fern leaves on the floor.  The housekeeper has been busy catching up on her blogs and photographing swans and crows!!!

Dancing stars come out for the 4th!

Last year they were on the picnic table.

You can see more of them here.

But today they are with the crow, who looks like he is up to some mischief with one of my vintage puffy heart charms.

The needlepoint coasters also have a flag.  I keep coasters handy and change them with the seasons.

You can see more of my charms here.

For today, I think we should take a hint from crow
…
show off our flag

find some red, white and blue,

and dance with the stars!

Celebrate our Independence
and give thanks for all it means.

Happy 4th of July!

  1. Linda, I have never been to Williamsburg and it looks like a wonderful gift shop. My son and his wife moved to Richmond in the fall so I am crossing my fingers. Sorry you couldn’t purchase all that you would like, but the blue and white swan plate IS beautiful. Love the little dancing stars and all the red, white, and blue — it makes me happy. Have a great day. Joni

  2. What a fun gift shop! Thanks for taking me along. It’s hard to leave behind a treasure but at least you took another home with you! Love your fun picnic table. Those clever crows are always waiting to snag something bright & shiny šŸ™‚

  3. hi Linda, what a charming post. I love how you’ve decorated for America’s July 4th party. Enjoyed your tour through Williamsburg and oh my at the goodies in those shops. I think I would have had a hard time leaving empty handed too. I see pieces I think would be great with my Quimper collection. I love your swan plate, and if you have a collection of swans you were right to get this one. Love it.
    Hope your fourth is great.

  11. Hi Linda, thanks for stopping by my blog post with our menu for our good friend from Vermont. Lindenmere is the name of his simple summer home, it’s in South Hero on South Hero Island – right on the western coast side with spectacular sunsets over the flatrocks.

I love that folk art store in Williamsburg as well – and I have that same little black carved wooden chicken – it’s so cute and just the right size to tuck in between my other chicks and roosters!

    Ciao, bella! xxoo

  12. I would so love to go visit. Your pictures and all of the displays are stunning. Great inspiration and eye candy. You asked about a Cloche Party. Yes, we will have one in July, I can’t wait so get ready. Thanks also for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty
