Disney Decor ?!

Disney decor?  I know you’re thinking this:

and wondering just what kind of Mickey Mouse decorator I am!  Well as I have told you before I always come back from vacations with an urge to purge my house and go with a new look.  And it is no different when we return from our family trips to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

That does not mean I’m using red polka dot bows and enchanted mice.  One of our two favorite places to stay at Disney World is Disney’s Yacht Club.
(the other is Wilderness Lodge)

The yachting theme is carried out with maritime touches throughout the lobby, rooms and grounds.  This huge globe, which actually spins, greets us in the lobby, and sits atop a BEAUTIFUL rug with compass points.

You can see the little hidden Mickey heads in the design, just to remind you that this is Disney.  The lobby is furnished with elegant sofas, chairs, tables and lamps but the feeling is definitely resort and casual.

After a long trip or a long day in the parks these chairs are very inviting.

Even the railings and banisters continue the theme
 with portholes and brass.

This lamp should follow me home.  And look at the brass rail on the table and the rug in the background!

The blue and white porcelain lamps and pots are not the only appealing accents.
Look closely at this chandelier in the center of the lobby.

Seahorses where you would not expect to see them!
More of them are on the wall sconces.

Not brave enough to put seahorses on your wall?  How about these more traditional shell sconces?  They still fit the theme without being over the top.

The rugs always fascinate me.  They were all designed specifically for this resort, with nautical blues (swoon, swoon) and corals.
Notice the beachballs!  A head and two ears.

Mickey makes an appearance here, but just enough to remind you that you are indeed in the magical world of Disney.

This hallway carpet could join the lamp in my suitcase.

On this visit we had to pass the gift shop every time we went to our room.   It was filled with a mix of high end resort wear and Minnie!
More nautical decor in the wall paper and glass doors.

After a long day riding Splash Mountain, Soarin’ and Cinderella’s Carousel, it’s nice to rest in a room with very subtle reminders of The Mouse.

Fabrics and furniture have rope style trim and more nautical details.

The sliders open to this view

complete with
ROSES

( which are even more spectacular when a few hours earlier you were shoveling snow),

flowers on all the paths,

a gazebo for lovers
(see the little hearts and cupid?)

and the lagoon for water sports.

The Yacht Club is adjacent to the Beach Club

with decor that is more sandy/beachy and less nautical.

Incredible sand castles behind glass adorn the walls.

Between the two resorts are these restaurants:

Ariel’s
—  named of course for Disney’s red-headed mermaid — but those gates could grace any fine seafood restaurant or my future beach estate (Which Disney Princess sang “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” ???)

and this old fashioned Ice Cream Parlor

(and yes, the ice cream is delicious but I will try all the flavors for you just to be sure 🙂).

Disney’s Yacht Club is an Epcot resort, which means it has easy access to that park.  We can walk along the flower lined paths, then along the lagoon and canal

to enter the World Showcase area of Epcot at the International Gateway.

Would you suspect these photos were “Disney” if I had not told you?
Once through the gates of the park the view of the Yacht Club is so pretty from the bridge.

Looking in the other direction from the bridge,
across the World Showcase lagoon, you can see Epcot’s symbol,
Spaceship Earth.
Inside is a wonderful ride that explains the history of communication, from the “dawn of man” to the present, with ideas about the future.

As night begins to fall the lights come on around the lagoon and
Spaceship Earth seems to float at the water’s edge.

We can’t help but feeling happy and optimistic when we are in this beautiful place.  Can you see why I find inspiration here?

In honor of Earth Day I would like to share this quote which we found on the wall of a museum here in Greenwich last weekend.
When I read it I thought of a favorite ride in the Magic Kingdom.
“It’s a small world after all” is something our family likes to say.
I don’t know if it’s from all our trips to the Home of the Mouse, or because it’s just true for us.

If the Earth were
only a few feet in diameter,
floating a few feet above a field somewhere,
people would come from everywhere to marvel at
it.  People would walk around it marveling at its big
pools of water, its little pools and the water flowing
between.   People would marvel at the bumps on it and the
holes in it.  They would marvel at the very thin layer of gas
surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas.  The people
would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of
the ball and at the creatures in the water.  The people would
declare it as sacred because it was the only one, and they would
protect it so that it would not be hurt.  The ball would be the greatest
wonder known, and people would come to pray to it, to be
healed, to gain knowledge, to know beauty and to wonder
how it could be.  People would love it and defend it
with their lives because they would somehow
know that their lives could be nothing
without it.  If the Earth were only
a few feet in diameter.

  1. Fabulous post Linda, not just for Earth Day but vacation time. I love Disney, I have visited three times and I have no kiddies! The Grand Floridian was my favorite. The buffets were to die for. They get it right at Disney all the time. xo

  2. What a fun post! I love Disney world … have only been once, but would go again at the drop of a hat. Lovely ideas here for a nautical look. Happy Earth Day!

  3. Beautiful Photos Linda! I feel like I’ve made the drive down after scrolling down through your photos. Lovely hotel. Beautifully decorated. I feel like I need a trip south soon! Lovely post…….

  4. Thanks for sharing these photos since my budget probably isn’t getting me to the Yacht Club anytime soon. I almost posted my Epcot pics from last April when we were there for the spring with all the flowers but ran out of time. It truly is a magical place and I am lucky enought to live less than 2 hours away (yes, sometimes we make it a day trip!).

  5. I think we may have a lot in common! I spent my trip to Vegas just looking at the interiors of all the hotels! I love the details you picked up on in a place that most people would only take pictures of the characters.

  6. What a gorgeous place to stay. I can so see why you like it there. I love all the attention to every detail. I would just want to stay in the hotel and take it all in. It would certainly make me want to come home and work on my house. Thanks so much for sharing with us.

  7. Hi Linda! Oh, what a beautiful and fun play to stay! Everything looks amazing! I’d probably just stay in the room and send everyone else out to prowl around the rides! 🙂
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    be a sweetie,

  9. So how are you redecorating??? I too love to get inspiration from our travels. It makes our houses into homes when we incorporate ourselves into the decor.. I have always loved Disney.. the magic never goes away.. xo marlis

  10. {taking in a happy, deep breath…} Thanks for sharing your blues. Nobody does it quite as perfect as Disney, but Disney blues… (another breath}

    Happy Blue Monday, Linda.

  11. The Disney Yacht Club Resort looks so lavish and well appointed, Linda. It would be a wonderful vacation to just stay in the room at such a pretty place, but having Epcot nearby is so convenient. It has been quite awhile since I visited Disney World. I hope to take my grandsons one day in the future.

  12. So happy to see your post on the Yacht Club and the Beach Club. One of our dearest friends, John Awsumb, was the architect on both of these resorts at Disney World. Thanks for taking us along on your trip. Cherry Kay

  13. Absolutely gorgeous pictures! I love the maritime theme and stayed in the similar hotel in EuroDisney. Blue and white is always a fresh combination of colours!

But when I see you photos I realise that it is true that everything is bigger in America. If you stay in a place like that, you want to enjoy it and hardly have any time to go to the fun park itself! Amazing!

  14. Linda~ Your post is making me suffering from Disney withdrawal, I’m WAY overdue a visit! The beautiful decor of The Yacht Club really floats my boat, we’ve never stayed there, but I’d certain love to, surrounded by all those nautical accents, beautiful rugs, and lighting! They don’t call it the Magic Kingdom for nothin’ and your photos look straight out of a travel brochure! Love the quote you included for Earth Day! ♥

  15. Hi Linda, I am still responding to my PS anniversary post. Thank you so much for you lovely comment about our anniversary. I am happy to meet a blogger I haven’s met before. I love you Blog name and agree with it so much. Smile.

Your post of the fabulous Disney vacation you had brings back a ton of memories. We lived in Kissimmee for 13 years and our son-in-law works there. We were able to visit this magic place ‘free.’ We spent ‘so much time’ enjoying everything Disney has to offer. Our niece from Kansas has stayed at the Yacht Club many time. It is a beautiful resort. Yep, lots of memories. Now you have wonderful memories to keep with your wonderful photos.

    Wishing you sunny days.
    xo, Jeanne

  19. I love Disney, but it has been years since we went. We always stayed in the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian wasn’t built yet. Son and his family stayed there last time. I would love to! Have you stayed there?
