On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Britain, and two days later, on July 4, 1776, the Congress ratified the document so eloquently written by Thomas Jefferson, at once declaring independence and establishing a new nation:
“these united Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States … And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor”
Words written by very brave men, that would serve us well to remember now.
Red, white and blue … an unexpected color combination, but one that makes my heart go pitter, patter when I see it.
I am proud, thankful, and always grateful to be an American!!
I think it is something to celebrate! And since, in the words of the immortal Julia Child, “a party without cake is just a meeting,” I’ve added some cake to our celebration of independence!

Your post is just adorable. Julia Child would be proud of that beautiful cake. It all looks like a wonderful way to celebrate our Nation’s birthday. I hope your celebration was terrific. We were gone all day with family and friends at my nephew’s home.
